Welcome to Sake Guide

Never has Japanese Sake been more popular abroad than it is now, and sales in Europe and the US are growing with more brands becoming available every year. But the many Japanese terms can be confusing and guidance is often hard to find or difficult to understand. If you are new to sake, that can be frustrating. And even a more experienced wine drinker may struggle to find the right words to describe the delicate notes of a glass of sake.

How do I know what's good? Will this go well with my food? Why does this one taste like bananas? What do these characters mean? What can I expect of that bottle I bought on my trip to Japan?

We want to make understanding sake fun and easy for everybody — with easy-to-understand texts and info graphics that explain everything from the bare basics to more advanced insights.

Because the more you know, the more you can enjoy!
